Cambridge, Maryland
When the oyster season closes, much of the fleet puts into Cambridge, one of the Eastern Shore’s largest towns, just off the Choptank River. It is no longer feasible to use these boats for transportation as in the old days, as the Maryland conservation laws forbid any dredge boat to install power. Thus by good fortune, these picturesque craft still exist while the cargo sailboats have vanished.
