Title: Interlibrary Loan Clerk Substitute
Summary of Position: Performs a variety of interlibrary loan (ILL) functions; provides friendly, high-quality service to both internal and external users.
Reports to: Interlibrary Loan Coordinator
Status: Hourly; non-exempt
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Primarily assists with processing incoming and outgoing interlibrary loans including emptying bins, inspecting materials, pulling items from collection, shelving, etc.
- Contacts patrons or other libraries about overdue or damaged ILL materials. Pack and unpack, and inspect, incoming and outgoing materials and route them appropriately.
- Uses automated library system (ILS) and specialized software to process requests for materials not available at TCFL.
- Explains and implements Interlibrary loan policies and procedures.
Projects and Systems Support:
- Maintains interlibrary loan service skills and knowledge to meet the library’s requirements.
- Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.
- Participates in meetings, teams/committees/workgroups, and training opportunities.
- Assists in maintaining a professional, friendly and welcoming library environment.
Essential Requirements:
- Frequently bends, lifts, and moves materials weighing up to 40 lbs., and pushing book trucks weighing 100+ lbs.
- Routinely uses computer keyboard.
- Frequently positions library books and materials in appropriate place or shelf.
- Regularly moves around the library facility.
- Regularly uses telephone and other office equipment.
- Maintains confidentiality of library records.
- Regularly communicates with Library patrons and staff in person, electronically, and by phone.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- One year or more customer service or equivalent technical training, education, and experience.
Other Requirements:
Occasional travel and participation in professional development and training.Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills including problem solving and flexibility; ability to work effectively with others.
- Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system.
- Familiarity with relevant computer equipment and associated software applications; strong and accurate keyboarding skills.
- Ability to operate a variety of office equipment.
- Mathematical ability to receive cash and make change.
- Effective communication skills.
