Talbot County Free Library Receives Donation from Fifth Annual Peter Wood “FUNraiser”

Easton, MD — Sabine Simonson, Talbot County Free Library (TCFL) Community Liaison and Volunteer Coordinator; Roo Wood; and Dana Newman, TCFL Library Director, recently gathered to acknowledge a generous donation made in support of the Library’s children’s collection.

The donation funds were raised through the Fifth Annual Peter Wood “FUNraiser.” In addition to raffle proceeds, this year’s winner—a lifelong friend of Peter’s who wishes to remain anonymous—generously donated back her prize money, bringing the total contribution to $1,000.

These funds will support the purchase of VOX books for the children’s collection at the Easton Branch. VOX books combine picture books, chapter books and non-fiction titles with audio recordings that engage young readers, making learning and literary development fun.

The “FUNraiser” honors the memory of Peter Wood, a dedicated library volunteer who was passionate about the library and its service to the community. Wood passed away on Aug. 9, 2020, at age 22, due to complications from Prader-Willi Syndrome, a genetic disorder. Roo Wood, Peter’s father, shared that the motivation behind the “FUNraiser” is his family’s ongoing commitment to the community and to the VOX Book Nook at the library.

“I just felt the need to keep this program moving forward. Our children need encouragement now more than ever. The gift of reading is a lifelong experience,” said Roo Wood. “These books help those young minds start their reading journey in a unique, self-paced, and welcoming way. Many who knew Peter best brought me a great deal of joy during this campaign as they shared fond memories about Peter. There are still many thoughtful and caring people in this world.”

Roo added, “In total, 100 tickets for the 50/50 raffle were sold at $10 apiece during the ‘FUNraiser.’ Thanks to the generosity of friends and family, this was all made possible in a matter of weeks. A special shout out to Mary Ann Swann of C-ST fame. She is the top ticket seller every year, the best.”
