Charles Carroll of Carrollton, the last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence, was a stockholder in the first Bank in Easton, "The Farmers Bank of Easton." His investment in the Bank contributed to the success of the Town. The Bank financed the first Steamboat Company in the area; also the first Railroad. The Farmers Bank of Easton became the Easton Bank; then, the Easton National Bank; and is now the Maryland National Bank. It is the 15th oldest Bank in continuous operation in the Nation.
