Talbot County Free Library Internet Statement

The Talbot County Free Library is committed to serving the cultural, educational and entertainment needs of its community. Providing access to the Internet enables the Library to greatly expand its information services.

However, the Internet is an unregulated medium. The Talbot County Free Library is unable to control or monitor the content of materials on the Internet. The Library has installed filtering software on all the public Internet computer terminals, but makes no guarantees for its effectiveness. Filtering software may be turned off at the discretion of the library staff if the request is made by an adult. Parents and guardians of children under the age of 18 are responsible for their children's use of the Internet.

Public Internet computers are not secure and should not be used to transfer financial and other personal data. The library is not responsible for the misuse of personal information entered on websites, nor can it guarantee that library computers will access any purchased Internet content.

The Talbot County Free Library does not allow the following:

Rules for using Internet:

  1. Time limit: 1 hour minimum, 2 hour maximum if no one is waiting.
  2. There is a 10 cent per page charge for black and white printouts. Color printing is 25 cents per page.
  3. Saving to a disk including CDR and USB flash drive is allowed.
  4. Staff members are not trained to assist you with problems with email.
  5. Misuse of computers and/or Internet access may result in suspension of Library privileges and possible criminal actions.

By using the computer systems of Talbot County Free Library you signify that you understand and agree to the policies outlined in this Internet Statement.
